HOW TO: Modern Farmhouse Playhouse

Hello, Hello Everyone!

For my daughter’s 2nd birthday, my husband and I decided to get her a playhouse for the backyard. I’ve seen a lot pictures on Instagram of people jazzing up different standard playhouses to match their esthetic and home. So obviously, I totally wanted to do it too!

The company Kidkraft has the best options for playhouses, but they sell out quick. So if you see one you want, buy it! Kidkraft also sells their products through many different vendors. So do a quick Google search and see if they are in stock on other websites. I tried to pick one that would match our house. Click here to purchase. So to jazz it up, I decided to paint it white, leave all the black accents and leave some natural wood to add depth and texture to the design.

My husband started off by laying out the pieces and seeing which ones we wanted to paint and which ones we did not. He taped off the windows and ledges to keep them black, along with setting the roof and door aside that already came black. We also set aside the gable and frame of the roof to keep the natural wood color. We already had a paint sprayer, so he grabbed a bucket of any standard Satin Ultra-White paint at Home Depot and got to work.  He sprayed the inside and outside of the walls until it was evenly covered.

Once dry, he moved all the pieces to the backyard and started to assemble. I was out of town during this process, but my husband said it was pretty straight forward to assemble. TIP: If you want to add a cute doormat, install the door an inch or two off the ground so you can still open the door. We learned that the hard way!

Accessories

I ordered this adorable playhouse doormat off of Etsy. It’s great quality and the vendor has a couple different design options to choose from. I also ordered these super cute eucalyptus plants from Target and they fit in the planter holes perfectly. And lastly, I ordered this adorable ‘Quinn’s Playhouse’ sign also from a shop on Etsy. It comes with string to hang it, but I decided to use a command strip and stick it on because I know my daughter would just take it off if it was hung. *Pots and pans set, telephone, stove and sink are included in playhouse purchase.
